Nightime

 

A bedding area should be provided with sufficient insulating material for a tortoise to bury itself completely.

 

Shredded paper is good and if you use newspaper it is readily available. It is easy to rip up and when dry does not harbour any bugs. Hay and Straw can sometimes cause problems with dust and can also carry mites and mildew.

 

There is no need to provide any night-time heat other than to prevent freezing, hopefully unlikely in the summer but be careful if over wintering.

 

The best site for the bedding is in the indoor area away from the basking lamps.
